THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITECTURE

Guided by themes of tradition, modernity and globalization, this module allows students to explore architectural development in Asia, to understand how history, culture and society affect architectural design and building construction technology. This is achieved through site visits, sketching analysis, research poster and oral presentation to help students interpret asian architectural language.

Overall, this module was quite informative. It allowed me to explore traditional streets like Jalan Tun HS Lee and then come up with a sketch analysis from my observations.  This pushed my abilities and was enjoyable too. I also learnt about different Asian architectural time periods and the history behind them as they developed or moved forward.  In this module, i also studied preservation of older architectural style against current modern architecture and how to balance the 2 within an urban context.
